We have provided the manufacturer with our technical advice and support during the design phase, the stress analysis and the final certification of a new Roller Coaster to be operated at Leolandia, a permanent amusement Park located nearby Bergamo – Italy.

In addition to the existing entertainment areas, the Park was designing a new thematic area adding an iconic ride with a great visual impact on visitors. Thus, the new Roller Coaster has been designed consistently with the new themed zone, mainly dedicated to young children.

The design approach has been adjusted taking care of the severe requirements of international standards and looking at the comfort of the ride vehicles.

Category: Roller Coaster

Issue of the first article: 2018

Park: Leolandia, Bergamo, Italy

Lift height: 7 m

Layout runout: 330 m

Use of the ride: up to 90 cm-tall children

Priority
Objectives

By following the Park’s guidelines, since the very beginning of the project, the manufacturer designed a Roller Coaster with a lightweight overall structure and large-spanned monolithic columns set onto concrete foundations. The design efforts combined with the structural analysis resulted in a slim and light structure with low visual impact and good aesthetic look harmonized with the new themed area. The project has been outstanding and original with respect to the standard products of the manufacturer.

Challenges
to be met

The major challenges to be carefully met were related to the aesthetics of the ride and the accessibility to very young children, i.e. under 4 years old. Step-by-step, a meticulous design review and optimization of the layout have been implemented in order to reduce the accelerations on passengers consistently with the mandatory international standards.

Solutions implemented
and results achieved

By means of continuous and profitable feedback with the manufacturer, the project has developed successfully. Furthermore, thanks to an effective relationship between the manufacturer and the Park executives, all the mandatory requirements have been accomplished. The final layout has been evaluated and defined in-depth by means of an optimization process deployed by the dynamic analysis implementation, the space path analysis and the speed and acceleration tuning. Every single step of the design has been shared with the Park. The final design has been validated by the stress analysis of the structural items including track, columns, train and all its ancillary elements. By a good synergy between us and the manufacturer, taking advantage of its strong attitude to innovate its product, the project came successfully to an end fulfilling the expectation of the Park.

All the following phases including manufacturing, assembly, installation on site and final acceptance tests have been completed successfully achieving the scheduled deadlines. The Park showed appreciation and satisfaction for the aesthetic results, the serviceability and the hour capacity of the Coaster.
